| Ed,
Alex, Mike & Dave - Bring Back Classic Van Halen |
DLR
ARMY HEADQUARTERS, Hell, Mich. - For five months since the
departure of vocalist Gary Cherone, Van Halen fans have traded
rumors and debated who would become the next singer of America's
greatest rock n' roll band.
As the 15th Anniversary of David Lee Roth's
departure from Van Halen approaches on April 1, fans have united
here, at DLR Army Headquarters, to take their plea public.
What follows is a request from fans to you,
Eddie, Alex, Mike and Dave. Those visiting the site have added
their names to this document, which will be forwarded to members
of David Lee Roth's organization, Van Halen's organization and
Warner Bros. Records Inc.
We want you back, Van Halen, you've been gone
for far to long. Rock n' roll needs you, so do your fans.
Eddie, Alex, Mike and Dave, we're
asking you to reconvene and regroup - to bring back the classic
Van Halen line-up we all miss so much.
We fans understand that each member of the
band cares about their career, but that you care even more about
your fans around the world. We also know that in order to work
at your full creative potential you must be surrounded by people
you trust and can work well with.
So it's with an honest optimism that we ask
the four of you to put aside any remaining disagreements,
hard feelings and bad blood so that you may again work together
in the near future.
We're asking you to recall a time in the
middle 1970s when the four of you struggled to create the band,
amid the odds working against you. Four enthusiastic, creative,
talented and charasmatic young men battled a doubtful record
industry, disco, New Wave and worse to become "America's
Band" in the 1980s.
Success and the differences of opinion
divided you, ultimately ending with Dave's leaving the band in
1985. That's understood.
That's also history.
KISS offered their former bandmates and fans
another shot at something they only dreamed of; the original
team, in their full glory. What a great way to pay tribute to
the people who have supported them. This year they retire at the
top of their game.
While it's been widely written that none of
you want to turn the band into a nostalgia act, it's clear that
with all band members working near the top of their games right
now, the magic is likely to happen once again.
All we can offer you is our opinion and our
support. We treasure the music you've created for us and are
unabashedly asking for more. We hope that the four of you can
help make amends and give us one more compact disc, one more
tour. If not only for yourselves - to repair old friendships and
revisit a special time - do it for us.
Bring back the magic, bring back the Mighty
Van Halen.
Sincerely,
Dave Clark, DLR Army Communications Officer,
Sgt Slingblade, Webmaster,

Monty
Byrom Exclusive
|
|
NASHVILLE
- A country music maverick who cut his teeth playing Delta
blues and rock n' roll, Monty Byrom's name might not
immediately jump out at David Lee Roth fans, but chances are
he wrote one of the songs you just couldn't stop listening to
during Dave's later solo career.
Byrom,
and partner-in-crime David Neuhauser, are responsible for
writing two Roth anthems; the super-charged "She's My
Machine" and the cocky, hilarious "Don't Piss Me
Off."
With a new release titled
"Woodstock Nation," (on Dead Reckoning Records)
ready to hit stores in April, Byrom shot the bull with the DLR
Army about working with Dave, the music industry and some
advice to unsigned bands on how to make your own musical
dreams a reality.
DLR
ARMY: So obviously Dave
liked "She's My Machine" ?
BYROM:
"He called up and told me he was looking for stuff for
his latest record and asked me if I had anything so we sent
him some songs. He loved it. We waited a long time for that
one. You know, the Nile Rogers song is actually my least
favorite version."
DLR ARMY:
That's not the original version on "Your Filthy Little
Mouth"?
BYROM:
"He must have spent $200,000 recording that song. He
actually recorded it three times. First with Bob Rock, another
time with Bob Ezrin, I think, and then with Nile. Personally,
I love the Bob Rock version. I thought Nile did a good job,
but Bob's version blew me away."
