It’s not unusual for members of Congress to be millionaires. But is Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., one of them?

A March 23 Facebook post shows a photo of Ocasio-Cortez with the text: "A broke bartender elected to Congress almost 6 years ago with a salary of $155,000 a year is now worth $29 million dollars … but the FBI is kicking in Donald Trump’s door..?"

The post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook.)

This is not the first time Ocasio-Cortez has been accused of being a millionaire. In 2021, we rated Pants on Fire a claim that she was worth more than $1 million. This latest version of the claim is no truer.

Members of Congress are required to file financial disclosures that list ranges, rather than specific amounts, of their assets, liabilities and income sources beyond their congressional salary.

Ocasio-Cortez’s latest financial disclosure report, filed Sept. 12, 2022, showed assets amounting to $4,004 to $60,000. It listed four assets — one savings account, one checking account, one brokerage account and a 401(k) plan. Each asset ranges from $1,000 to $15,000.

Similar to what we reported in 2021, this means her liabilities could be worth more than her assets.

We could not find any credible reports that show her net worth being anything close to $29 million.

Members of Congress, with few exceptions, receive a salary of $174,000. The House speaker receives $223,500, while the Senate president pro tempore and the majority and minority leaders in the House and Senate receive $193,400.

These rates have been unchanged since 2009.

We rate this claim Pants on Fire!

Surprising absolutely no one, Trump ignored his lawyers advice to settle with the DOJ, instead choosing
to listen to some non-attorney goofball:

Trump rejected lawyers’ efforts to avoid classified documents indictment

One of Donald Trump’s new attorneys proposed an idea in the fall of 2022: The former president’s team
could try to arrange a settlement with the Justice Department.

The attorney, Christopher Kise, (a former solicitor general of Florida who was paid $3 million upfront
to join Trump’s team last year,) wanted to quietly approach Justice to see if he could negotiate a
settlement that would preclude charges, hoping Attorney General Merrick Garland and the department
would want an exit ramp to avoid prosecuting a former president. Kise would hopefully “take the
temperature down,” he told others, by promising a professional approach and the return of all
                  documents.

But Trump was not interested after listening to other lawyers who urged a more pugilistic approach,
so Kise never approached prosecutors, three people briefed on the matter said. A special counsel
                  was appointed months later.

Interviews with seven Trump advisers with knowledge of the probe indicate he misled his own advisers,
telling them the boxes contained only newspaper clippings and clothes. He repeatedly refused to give
the documents back, even when some of his longest-serving advisers warned of peril and some flew
to Mar-a-Lago to beg him to return them.

Trump time and again rejected the advice from lawyers and advisers who urged him to cooperate and
instead took the advice of Tom Fitton, the head of the conservative group Judicial Watch, and a range
of others who told him he could legally keep the documents and should fight the Justice Department,
advisers said. Trump would often cite Fitton to others, and Fitton told some of Trump’s lawyers that
Trump could keep the documents, even as they disagreed, the advisers said.

The former president was not interested in attempting to negotiate a settlement in the classified documents investigation, three people briefed on the matter said.

You would think that his lawyers will not be happy he admitted to the crime in a speech in New Jersey soon after pleading Not Guilty.

I can't imagine any lawyer representing Trump would find it a positive experience at this phase...

The only reason most would accept such a job would be some desire to be a part of history, possible fame and maybe money... none of which seem very compelling nor fulfilling some great service to the nation...

There is also the danger you get drawn in. Trump's co-defendant is his Oddjob style henchman - “Walt” Nauta . He;s facing 20 years...
